These were grown on the campus of Nanyang Technological University which I lived for 16 years. I wasn't blogging then, and I didn't appreciate them as they were all over the place.

Thursday Theme Song: Traffic Jam

The worst traffic jams I had been in were during the Chinese New Year festivals when there is an exodus of Malaysian workers in Malaysia cities and in Singapore returning home for their reunion. We were stuck for 6 hours.

Traffic Jam by James Taylor

(Chorus)
Damn this traffic jam
How I hate to be late
It hurts my motor to go so slow
Damn this traffic jam
Time I get home my supper'll be cold
Damn this traffic jam

Well I left my job about 5 o'clock
It took fifteen minutes go three blocks
Just in time to stand in line
With a freeway looking like a parking lot

- Chorus -

Now I almost had a heart attack
Looking in my rear view mirror
I saw myself the next car back
Looking in the rear view mirror
'Bout to have a heart attack
I said

- Chorus -

Now when I die I don't want no coffin
I thought about it all too often
Just strap me in behind the wheel
And bury me with my automobile

- Chorus -

Damn...

Now I used to think that I was cool
Running around on fossil fuel
Until I saw what I was doing
Was driving down the road to ruin

Impatiens balsamina (Garden Balsam or Rose Balsam) is a species of Impatiens native to southern Asia in India and Myanmar. It is called kamantigue in the Philippines. This species of Kalamantigue are used in teas. Boil the seeds after drying and you will get a tea.[1]

In many English speaking countries they are known as "Touch me Not", possibly due to the ripe seed pods explosively bursting when touched. We loved to pop them, and if they are not ripe, even squeezing them will not make them pop.

Used to treat skin disease. Mum used to pound the flowers into a slimy mess and apply it to our tropical boils. We did it but we were sceptical. These day, Mum would be hailed as a naturalist.

Train I ride is sixteen coaches long
Train I ride is sixteen coaches long
Well, that long black train take my baby and gone

Mystery train rolling down the track
Mystery train rolling down the track
Well, it took my baby, feel they won't be coming back

Train, train, rolling round the bend
Train, train, rolling round the bend
Well, it took my baby, feel they won't be back again

Train I ride is sixteen coaches long
Train I ride is sixteen coaches long
Well, that long black train take my baby and gone

Fast growing, perennial bush, 1-2 metres tall, indigenous to south east Asia and Australia’s tropical North Queensland. Terminal flower stems carry whorls of white, two-lipped flowers and protruding purple stamens, which give the flower its characteristic cat’s whiskers appearance.

Medicinal Uses use in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia for several centuries, we can learn how to use one of our beautiful native plants. Cat's Whiskers is an esteemed tea for kidney diseases, disorders causing wasting disease, dysuria, and for the treatment of kidney and urinary stones or discharge. Some in Singapore even think it cures cancer.

Weekend Reflection: Respect

http://newtowndailyphoto.blogspot.com/

It was a cold, blustery, winterly afternoon,
A group of senior citizens walked in the rain to catch the train.
The train station was just a small shelter with a bench.

My heart sank, at the "no respect" the two young girls showed.
They continued to sit,
When many of the senior citizens, some in their 80s had to stand in the rain.

I felt sad,
when I was young,
I was taught to give respect, and give up my seat for an older person.

In school,
I teach my students, to give respect.
Where was the respect on that Wednesday afternoon?

Thursday Theme Song: Sing your way home.

Sing your way home
at the close of the day...
Sing your way home,
drive the shadows away.
Smile every mile
For wherever you roam
It will brighten your road,
It will lighten your load,
If you sing your way home.

For John John and Dora, the song in Chinese.
http://ginny-letyourlightshine.blogspot.com/2011/07/on-our-way-home.html Ginny posted a on your way home. I told her that she stirred up memories of long long ago. It must have been when I was in primary school when we sang this song.

My friends from Taiwan came to stay in New Zealand for six months. Then they went home. They probably wasn't in the mood to sing this song when they were returning to Taiwan.

Here are the photos I took when I went with Lily, Dora and John John for a day trip just before they flew home. They will be missing the beautiful scenery of New Zealand.

The Brisbane River, running through Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, is crossed by sixteen major bridges, from the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges downsteam to the Centenary upsteam. The river meanders through an urban area that comprises 1.8 million people.

This is why you keep getting to see my photos of bridges in Brisbane.
