Macro flowers:Lachenalia

Thank you Maia.

First I love flowers. Second, the badge for this meme is the North Borneo Orchid. My Dad's favourite flower. It gives me warm fuzzy feeling every time I see this flower.

Join Macro Flowers Saturday, a photo meme for macro photos and close-ups of flowers, garden flowers, wildflowers, blossoms, flowers with insects and butterflies (no insects without flowers), flowers with raindrops and whatever beautiful plants, plant seeds or berries you have, in close-up.

First time visitors, please read the rules. They are simple but I do ask that you, please, use a MFS badge or link back to MFS in some way. Thank you.

I am sorry I don't know it's name. I have google searched, but can't find the flower. They grow in New Zealand gardens, and bloom in winter. The florists like to use them.

My friend from China tells me they call them a spray of red or a spray of yellow.

Do you know?

Hi Ann; this Flower is called Lachenalia. Also called soldier flower. It is a bulb and it has many different Hybrids. It is very pretty.

Ann, it also look like cuphea micropetala, a flower which resembles a smouldering cigar or common name cigar flower but I'm not sure.

Yes, Tatinia is right, it is a Lachenalia! I've never seen anything like it, how strange and lovely. I learned something here. It is indeginous to South Africa and Namibia.
