The Chinese ( especially the rich ones, which my mum is not, and my aunt is) like to grind up pearls to give to babies. So I never got any.
My very good friend, Sarawakianna took me to this Chinese Medical hall and showed me these pearls people use for medicinal purposes.

Yes, on a tour of Shanghai 2 years ago we visited a pearl factory somewhere. The sales girls let us try eating some powdered pearls. I feel much younger now!
