Asparagus

My Sister Rose and Brother Joseph grow asparagus. They are delicious and packed with nutrients.

I love it sauteed by itself. But you do anything with it.

It is a good plant to grow, after the initial two years wait, you are good for many years provided you feed with with compost. You harvest the spears until early summer. Try to resist the temptation of harvesting the rest. You let them grow leaves or next year's crop will be poor.

My husband's grandmother grew asparagus when he was young. He still loves it today.

I don't know anyone who grows asparagus around here. Your picture looks like thay have it in a pot on the porch. Can you gow it that way the whole time, or do you have to plant it outside in the ground at some point?

We have an asparagus bed. LOL...I would post a picture on my blog, but I need to weed it first.

Ginny,

you can grow them either in a big and deep pot or in a bed. There are less weeds if you grow them in a pot. For a bed, You deep a trench and cover with 8 inch of dirt and compost.
